Outdoors, natural stone must permanently withstand frost, moisture and intense sun exposure – for terrace slabs, paving and driveways, slip resistance when wet adds a further requirement. Requirements for Natural Stone in the Garden
Frost resistance is decisive outdoors: moisture that freezes in fine cracks can eventually crack porous stone – dense stones such as porphyry, basalt or granite are especially proven here. For terraces, paths and pool surrounds, we also recommend a bush-hammered, flamed or sawn-and-blasted surface rather than a polished one, so the surface offers secure footing even when wet.
