Basalt is a volcanic extrusive rock of exceptional density and hardness, formed by the rapid cooling of lava. Its deep black to anthracite, almost uniform structure makes it the epitome of monolithic, modern architecture. At CAMT you can source basalt from select quarries in the Eifel and France – as a raw slab, cut to size, or fully finished for your project.

Properties of Basalt

At around 6 on the Mohs hardness scale and with an extremely dense structure, basalt is one of the most durable natural stones for floors and facades. Its low water absorption makes it frost-proof and almost impervious to weathering – even under strong temperature swings.

Due to its high density, basalt's weight must be factored into planning, especially for large-format installations. Its evenly dark colour is excellently suited to clear, minimalist design concepts. We're happy to advise you at the CAMT showroom in Riesa on the right surface for your project.

Cleaning with warm water and a mild cleaner is generally enough.
Sealing is not required but can further enhance the shine.
Frost- and salt-resistant – no special protective measures needed even in winter.
Abrasive cleaning agents should still be avoided long-term.
