Marble Timeless Natural Stone

Marble is a natural rock formed by the transformation of limestone, distinguished by its characteristic veining, an elegant, mostly light colouring and a polishable, glossy surface. Since antiquity, marble has been a symbol of luxury and permanence – from classical sculpture to modern flooring, kitchen countertops and bathrooms. At CAMT you can source marble from select quarries in Italy, Spain and South Tyrol – as a raw slab, cut to size, or fully finished for your project.

Properties of Marble

Despite its elegant appearance, marble is actually one of the easier-care natural stones for everyday use: a polished surface wipes clean with a few strokes and holds up surprisingly well even under heavier use. It also has high heat tolerance up to around 600 °C – one reason marble floors pair so well with underfloor heating.

One thing to note is the material's porosity: oil, wine or fruit acid can leave marks with prolonged contact, which is why abrasive or aggressive cleaners are off-limits. Not all marble varieties behave the same way in frost either – a point we're happy to clarify with you when choosing material for outdoor areas at the CAMT showroom in Riesa. With the right care products and regular sealing, the characteristic shine remains for decades.

Origin Italy, Spain, South Tyrol

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Unique, natural veining – every slab is one of a kind.
  • Pleasantly cool surface, ideal with underfloor heating.
  • Timeless look that increases a property's value.
  • Lasts for generations with the right care.

Cons

  • Acid-sensitive – requires regular sealing.
  • Softer than granite – more prone to scratching.
  • Higher purchase price than many alternative materials.
  • Polished: a more slip-resistant surface is recommended for wet areas.

Surfaces – From Gloss to Matte.

The surface finish determines the look, feel and slip resistance of your marble – we'll advise you on the right choice for your project:

  • Polished – High-gloss, mirror-like. Emphasises the veining and colour depth, classic for floors and furniture.
  • Honed (matte) – Silky-matte, even surface with a subtle sheen, more slip-resistant than polished.
  • Brushed – Lightly textured with an antique look, conceals minor signs of wear.
  • Flamed / Anticato – Coarsely textured and slip-resistant, ideal for outdoor areas and terraces.

Care – How Marble Stays Beautiful.

Marble is a calcareous natural stone and is sensitive to acids – such as those from citrus fruit, vinegar or wine. With the right care, however, its elegant look will last for decades:

  • Clean only with pH-neutral cleaners specifically suited to natural stone.
  • Regular sealing protects against stains and makes cleaning easier.
  • Wipe up spilled acids (wine, lemon, vinegar) promptly to avoid dulling the surface.
  • Use trivets for hot pots and avoid abrasive cleaning agents.
